The loss of the idea of the Human Person being the Image of God has had a disastrous effect on how we see ourselves in relation to the world. Some ethicists demand that we see ourselves along with apes and other social animals as a moral community of equals. Thus the human person becomes viewed as the smartest animal and of no greater moral worth than an animal, calling any view of human superiority ‘speciesism’. From this perspective it seems hard to refute things like abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, the right to die, human cloning, designer genes and more.
Some have said that Adam had the Image of God and lost it in the fall, such that we only have the potential to be the Image of God. Others have said the Image of God is our physicality. What is this Image and how do we understand it so that we preserve a Biblical view of ourselves and the world around us?
