The Ecumenical Councils and the Person of Christ

During His earthly ministry Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” This question remains central for those claiming to be His disciples. Is Christ merely a man? Or is He God in flesh? On the answer to this question hangs the truth of the Christian religion. In this podcast, host Sam Welbaum, along with panelists Kurt Blake, Derek Brover and Joe Slunaker address the the question of the person of Christ by looking at the Ecumenical councils of the 4th and 5th centuries. The conclusions that the early church came to in these councils became the creeds which ratified what the church had held since its inception and must continue to hold throughout history if we wish to agree with Christ on the answer to the question of who He is. Historical theology is of the utmost importance, and this episode displays that fact in a way that hopefully inspires others to embrace the discipline.
